American Idol viewers sent Burnell Taylor home Thursday, but that wasn’t the night’s biggest surprise.
Taylor, the Louisiana R&B singer who lost 40 pounds between his initial audition and the final rounds of the show, was obviously at risk after a horrible performance of Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name Wednesday. The night’s big shocker was the continued popularity of Lazaro Arbos, a likable but inconsistent singer who has shown a troubling tendency to forget his lyrics the past two weeks.
While record executive Jimmy Iovine said, “I put him in the Bottom 2 or out,” voters put him much higher. Like in the Top 3, with Angie Miller and Amber Holcomb.
And here’s the scary thing: Ryan Seacrest announced the Top 3 in no particular order. Which means Arbos possibly could have been the week’s top vote-getter.
Despite a solid performance of Billy Joel’s You May Be Right, Janelle Arthur joined Taylor in the Bottom 2.
So five women and only one guy remains — and the judges’ save must be used by the Top Five.
And that means one of the female singers will get it. It’s only a matter of time.
